CHICAGO ARTS DISTRICT: 40TH ANNUAL PILSEN EAST ARTISTS' OPEN HOUSE, PART 2

Posted by debbie lee on

i've been meaning to blog about last weekend's art fair... last weekend was the chicago arts district 40th annual east pilsen open house.  it was the first time i participated in any event of this kind... it was a lot of work for me... making sure i had enough inventory... figuring out how i was to set up my display, etc... in the end, it was a great experience... i was in good company, supported a great cause, had some sales, made some new and potential customers, and was introduced to some very creative artisans.  here are some photos of the wares from the group, "artists for education", that i exhibited with...

look at these incredible ceramic mugs from this quiet dust from designer dubhe carreno.  so modern, huh?  take a look at the handle of the second mug... yes, that's the human heart, with an aorta and everything!

these bags are not your everyday accessories... founder of engage green, leonor mendoza is completely committed to being environmentally responsible.   all of her products are made of recycled and sustainable materials.  she uses 18 plastic water bottles to create one yard of fabric... the end result is eco-friendly yet fashionable products!  she makes everything from clutches, purses, messenger bags, yoga bags, and even umbrellas {the handle of the umbrella is biodegradable}

i also met marta medina of medina contemporary jewelry... beautiful jewelry handmade in venezuela...

lovely hand-dyed silk scarves from lydia brockman of the little pillar...

and incredible photography and artwork.  from small pieces...

to ginormous artwork...

it was a great weekend in the name of a greater cause... KIPP schools.  to learn more about KIPP schools and successful education reform or to make a donation... visit the site at www.kipp.org
