hello friends! i've been away, i know. forget the excuses, shall we? let me just dive right in and fill you in... i returned on sunday from a quick 72ish hour trip to california for the LA Printers Fair. i dragged my friend melanie along with me and we crashed with our good friend remy that lives in california. what a grandiose time we had! aside from the printer's fair, our schedule was wide open so what else better to do than EAT. you read that right.. EAT. everything we ate was from local, food joints. these are my top 3 best eats from this trip: WARNING: this entire post is filled with really poor phone camera pics and i'm horrible at photo collages {if you have tips for me on that, please share}...
#1 porto's bakery and cafe {cuban}: oh my, so good! their cuban sandwiches are so fresh and delightful. i cannot forget to mention their awesome potato balls {tasty cuban ground beef encased in creamy mashed potato and deep fried to perfection} and flaky empanadas. their wall of bakery items had so many options, we had a difficult time deciding what to devour. porto's is a family owned business that has been around since 1960 and my friend remy has been going to porto's since she was a little girl.
#2 kogi {korean and mexican fusion}: oh my, the kogi food truck! heaven! i ate three tacos: spicy pork, short rib, and calamari. korean tacos = genius! for dessert we split the sirachi bar, dark chocolate with a spicy kick. we loved it so much that we decided to go back and try the chocolate tres leches cake too. yum! you can tell from this post how much i love food. the three of us ordered our food and literally moaned and sighed with every bite. the owners of the kogi truck capitalized on social media when they got started. they used twitter to spread the word of their location, it caught on quickly and their popularity and following spread like wildfire.
#3 daikokuya {japanese}: i LOVE soup. all kinds and even when it's hot outside. soup is such a comfort food. the restaurant wasn't even open for half an hour and there was already a line of locals out the door. we signed our names in and we were #25 and had a 30 minute wait, that's how good it is. the photo doesn't do the soup justice {not only is it a camera phone picture, but this is a picture of my leftovers that i ate the following day. all of our cell phones died due to too many camera pics that we weren't able to take a picture of the soup at the restaurant}. they simmer the pork broth for a whole day, tasty! how is this a workday wednesday post? ha! i'm getting there...
