workday wednesdays: atsuko & karl

Posted by debbie lee on

wedding season is here and i've been swamped with wedding after wedding {i'm not complaining, it's great!}

i met atsuko back in college and was ever so delighted when she asked me to print her wedding invitations {their proposal was caught on tape by cbs news and they have the cutest save the date video EVER, no really... i watched it over and over and over}!  it was my biggest wedding order to date... 200 invites, 3 color run, and double-sided reply postcards {that's 1800 passes through the press, woah!}

i love how atsuko and karl infused a little bit of culture into their invites... the back of the reply cards are written in french, japanese, and german!  a big congratulations to atsuko and karl.. i'm so happy for you both!!

here's a sneak peak of their invites {i don't want to spoil it for those invited, they haven't all been mailed yet}... design collaboration by the bride, groom, and their lovely bridesmaid susie alegado and printed by moi!

everyone knows what a wedding planner does, but have you ever heard of a baby planner?  i've never heard of the term until i met jean abejero of bebe tresor... she has exstensive credentials {as a neonatal intensive care nurse, she has cared for newborns as small as 500 grams to 20 pounds, woah!} and offers services ranging from baby shower planning to cpr and first aid education {and everything inbetween!}

feature fridays: kasey hamel wedding & event design

Posted by debbie lee on

as of late, i've been printing plenty of business cards... remember these "lucky in love" wedding invitations?  here are business cards for kasey hamel wedding & event in richmond, va.  although we've never met or spoken and live in different states, kasey and i have formed a sort of virtual business relationship... she'll design something for letterpress and i print and bring to life said lovely designs...

speaking of those "lucky in love" wedding invites... while on the phone with a bride recently, she asked,

"if i want letterpress postcard response cards, if they get wet, will they smudge or get destroyed?" my response, "good question" {as i was at a loss for words}.  how is that i never checked?  so i picked up an extra reply card i had and soaked it under running water.  literally.

oh, you don't believe me... here's another shot:

then i let the reply card dry.  get this:

no smudges.  no runny ink.  incredible {i know}.  the proof is in the pudding.  you're sold aren't you?! i know i am.  waterproof letterpress wedding invitations.  incredible.   have a great weekend!

workday wednesdays: a visit to magnificent milestones

Posted by debbie lee on

i live so close to the city, but for some reason i haven't been able to make my way out to magnificent milestones {the retail store that sells my little chicago cards} until kara {owner} ordered a second batch of cards {yipee!}

nestled in the river north neighborhood of chicago, everything about this place screams chic... from the curved wall {former real estate agent, so i fancy architectural details like this}...

{note:  it was a dreary day with poor natural light.. my photos stink and do not give this place justice}

to the fresh flower arrangement and the framed invitations hanging on the wall...

to the many displays...

and to the numerous greeting cards, boxed sets, note sets, etc that adorn the walls and tables...

and then... among all the goodness... on a table... smack dab in the middle of the place... sit my boxed set of chicago cards... hooray!

thanks kara for letting me snoop around the shop!

tangent tuesdays: i'm back

Posted by debbie lee on

i've been on sabbatical, vacation, holiday.. what have you... for 2 weeks.  i closed the etsy shop for the first time...  no blogging, no facebook page posts, no printing... {ok, that's a lie.. i've been crazy busy with outside etsy orders and knee deep in wedding season}.

aside from catching up on printing {so much to post about!}, the husband had a sales meeting and wind power conference to attend on the west coast scheduled for two consecutive weeks.  instead of flying back and forth and back and forth, we decided to accompany him and make a family vacation out of the days in between his two work events.

we didn't tell the kids the itinerary, so you can imagine the surprise when we took them to disneyland...

and to legoland... {you must go... it's awesome for younger aged kids!}...

we relaxed a few days with a college friend and her husband "g" {a video game designer for call of duty... super cool!!} in their awesome mid century modern home in the hills... my son loved just hanging out and playing video games.  "g" even sketched a few things for my son which he gingerly carried onto the airplane and would not let go of...

we also did plenty of shopping, relaxing, and eating {gggrreat... now i have to lose vacation weight on top of baby weight.  fantastic.}

{in-n-out burgers... so bad, but so good}

{l & l... oh boy, love me some hawaiian bbq... chicken katsu, macaroni salad.. sigh}

{brazilian from pampas grill at the farmers market at the grove... my husband and i shared this plate... over  2 pounds of food... sick {i know}, but so yummy...

the vacation is over... sigh.  back to reality... big things are happening behind the scenes with penelope's press and plenty of projects to report.. stay tuned!
