tangent tuesdays: animal visitors

Posted by debbie lee on

this is really random.  a few weeks ago, i saw a big fat bunny in my vegetable garden {warning: horrible camera phone pictures}

yes... there is a garden underneath all of those weeds... that's what happens when you go on vacation for 10 days during torrential rain storms.  the picture on the left is the bunny {she doesn't look so fat here... but her belly was big} and the picture on the right is the bunny trying to make a quick escape after she hears me banging on the window like a maniac.

the weekend came and i spent hours pulling at the weeds.  tired and dripping sweat, i reached for a pile of twigs and was stopped in my tracks.  i screamed to my husband that there was a family of field mice in my garden.  after closer inspection, we realized it was baby bunnies.  the darn fat rabbit had her babies in my garden!  {yes, i know... there are plenty more weeds that i still need to pick.  can you see the baby bunnies though?  look closely}

the bunnies were so small, with their eyes still closed and their ears tucked back.  they've left their home in my garden and they are big now.. i see them running around the yard.  here are three of them... can you find them?

{that's right... i know... i have weeds to pick outside the garden bed too}

just yesterday though... my kids were playing on their playset when my son started screaming bloody murder that there was something in their playset... so i come running like a nut, thinking they've found a mouse or snake or something... but no.  tucked at the base of their playset... MORE BABY BUNNIES.. seriously?!  our backyard is no longer ours.

the bunnies should stay away if they know what's good for them.  my husband spotted a hawk perched on our gutter...

 after all those weeds were picked... look at that... the first harvest of the season... yellow & red grape and roma tomatoes and a pepper too!  back to letterpress related news tomorrow... promise.

workday wednesdays: giselle & lloyd

Posted by debbie lee on

i'm so behind on blogging about the brides and grooms i have had the pleasure to work with lately...  giselle and lloyd are no exception.  some brides {and grooms, but it's mostly the bride} have an idea of what they envision for their wedding invitations while some need a little bit more direction.  giselle though, is like no other bride i've ever met.  when she approached me regarding her upcoming nuptials, i could not believe how organized she was!  i was provided with a power point with invitation text, desired fonts, colors, and images from the web that were sources of inspiration.  incredible!  after just a little back and forth, the design was finalized.  thank you giselle and lloyd for letting me create invites for your special day!

workday wednesdays: atsuko & karl

Posted by debbie lee on

wedding season is here and i've been swamped with wedding after wedding {i'm not complaining, it's great!}

i met atsuko back in college and was ever so delighted when she asked me to print her wedding invitations {their proposal was caught on tape by cbs news and they have the cutest save the date video EVER, no really... i watched it over and over and over}!  it was my biggest wedding order to date... 200 invites, 3 color run, and double-sided reply postcards {that's 1800 passes through the press, woah!}

i love how atsuko and karl infused a little bit of culture into their invites... the back of the reply cards are written in french, japanese, and german!  a big congratulations to atsuko and karl.. i'm so happy for you both!!

here's a sneak peak of their invites {i don't want to spoil it for those invited, they haven't all been mailed yet}... design collaboration by the bride, groom, and their lovely bridesmaid susie alegado and printed by moi!

feature fridays: kasey hamel wedding & event design

Posted by debbie lee on

as of late, i've been printing plenty of business cards... remember these "lucky in love" wedding invitations?  here are business cards for kasey hamel wedding & event in richmond, va.  although we've never met or spoken and live in different states, kasey and i have formed a sort of virtual business relationship... she'll design something for letterpress and i print and bring to life said lovely designs...

speaking of those "lucky in love" wedding invites... while on the phone with a bride recently, she asked,

"if i want letterpress postcard response cards, if they get wet, will they smudge or get destroyed?" my response, "good question" {as i was at a loss for words}.  how is that i never checked?  so i picked up an extra reply card i had and soaked it under running water.  literally.

oh, you don't believe me... here's another shot:

then i let the reply card dry.  get this:

no smudges.  no runny ink.  incredible {i know}.  the proof is in the pudding.  you're sold aren't you?! i know i am.  waterproof letterpress wedding invitations.  incredible.   have a great weekend!
